Programs & Curriculum

Curriculum Overview

At The Piano Lab, we prioritize substantial musical growth and a genuine love for music over external examinations.

Our curriculum is built on a diverse and flexible selection of high-quality materials, tailored to each student’s unique learning style and pace. For beginners, we primarily integrate the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) and Piano Adventures series. We find these methods provide a balanced and engaging foundation, offering a well-structured path for early musical development.

To ensure technical mastery and artistic depth, we expand this foundation with a rich variety of classical etudes and repertoire—including works by Hanon, Czerny, Burgmüller, Scarlatti, and Clementi.

By combining modern pedagogical methods with the heritage of classical training, we provide a comprehensive and personalized education focused entirely on the student’s long-term musical journey.

Programs

The Piano Lab is committed to “Integrated Musicianship,” seamlessly weaving instrumental technique, theoretical analysis, and performance practice into every session.

We integrate theoretical learning into every session at the keyboard. This allows students to experience musical structure firsthand as they play, ensuring a more efficient and rewarding learning process that connects the 'how' and 'why' of music in real-time.

We offer four optimized programs tailored to the student's developmental stage and goals.

    Tuition: $200 (Per 4-week block)

Focus: Designed for our youngest learners (Age 5-7). This session centers on building a joyful musical foundation through engaging, age-appropriate instruction that instills essential fundamentals.

Performance & Showcase

At The Piano Lab, we believe that performance should not be a source of anxiety, but a regular habit. We provide frequent opportunities for students to build stage presence and share their music.

Weekly Studio Class

To cultivate confidence, we hold a performance class every Saturday morning at 10:00 am. This is a safe, supportive environment where students learn stage etiquette and overcome nervousness through repeated exposure.

Participation

Weekly attendance is encouraged but optional. While open to all students wishing to perform, the Director may assign specific students to perform to prepare for upcoming evaluations or to refine their repertoire.

Seasonal Showcase

Held twice a year in May and December, these formal recitals are grand celebrations of the semester’s growth. These showcases take place at venues such as the Steinway Piano Gallery or the Washington University Music Center, allowing students to share their music with family and friends.
